Desktop Printers vs. Industrial Printers

Besides wondering why we offer so many different product lines, a lot of our customers also ask us why we provide both plastic (desktop) and metal (industrial) printers—and what the differences are between them.

Curious to know why, too?

See below!

Desktop Printers

TSC’s desktop printers are usually made of plastic polymers, so they’re quite durable.

We design them to print anywhere from 500 to 5,000 labels (or more) daily depending on the printer type and application.

Also, the main benefit of our desktop printers is their cost; most of the time, they are less expensive than our industrial printers.

3 Desktop Printer Examples:

Built with TSC durability, reliability and commitment to innovation, the 2-inch-format TDP-225 series direct thermal printer features a compact design and high-performance engine that make it ideal for many healthcare, retail and asset tagging labeling applications.

Industrial Printers

We design our industrial printers to be as durable as possible and to provide years of reliable service.

That’s why we construct these printers out of metal instead of plastic, using heavy-duty diecast aluminum and metal frames to ensure they’re tough, robust, and dependable.

Application-wise, our industrial printers are designed to print larger quantities of labels than our desktop printers (up to tens of thousands per day).

Generally, they also print faster than our plastic desktop printers.

3 Industrial Printer Examples:

1. MX240P

The MX240P Series industrial thermal printer is ruggedly built for high-volume, high-quality label printing.

2. TTP-2410MT

The TTP-2410MT features a high technology printhead, high-speed performance, a color touch display, and all the memory customers will need to print high-quality labels at the fastest speeds.

3. TTP-286MT

The affordable and easy-to-use TTP-286MT Series wide-format thermal transfer printer is ideally suited for compliance labeling, brand marketing, inventory control, drum labeling, warning signs and a host of other signage solutions.
