We recently had a video conference call with Thomas Rosenhammer, Sales Manager, DACH, and discussed his expertise regarding the history, evolution, and success of the TSC PEX Series print engine. Thomas discussed how the product enables customers to fully automate their labeling process within large scale assembly operations.
Joining TSC Printronix Auto ID in 2010, Rosenhammer was an early proponent of adding a print engine to our product portfolio. Relying on his prior experience with print and apply projects, Thomas played a key role in helping integrators use TSC industrial printers, like the TTP-2410MT, in print and apply applications. Rosenhammer’s hard work and dedication assured the company there was indeed a market demand for the print engine.

TSC’s innovative PEX-1000 Series print engine is designed for years of reliability, ease of use, and cost-conscious serviceability. Complying with industry standards, the PEX-1000 Series is designed for simple integration that can be easily integrated into just about any print and apply environment.
The print engine has a USB port on the front for quick and easy access for label format and firmware updates to simplify the job of the operator. During initial setup, the print engine can also be easily configured with a pre-programmed USB flash drive.
For ease of installation, the PEX-1000 Series features a bolt-compatible construction that can be easily integrated into print and apply automation systems. Industry standards can be easily met with this compatible construction. The PEX-1000 Series offers simple integration into both new and existing label application installations. It is ideal for manufacturing and logistic applications where high-speed and high demand label printing is required.
Another unique requirement the print engine brings to the manufacturing process is right- and left-side applicator options available for the printer. Essentially, the printer needs to be able to adapt to equipment that is used on either side of an assembly line and present the label in the proper direction.
With the PEX Series, customers have a unique cost-savings advantage by being able to use TSC printer spare parts for maintenance and upkeep. For example, the PEX and the MX240 industrial barcode printer both share common parts making it easier for customers to stock parts like printheads and save money. It is a cost-saving measure to be able to use spare parts from other TSC printers and avoid having to purchase new parts in the event equipment needs to be serviced. The PEX-1000 Series combines a precision print mechanism with high-performance electronics to produce labels at one of the fastest speeds on the market at up to 18-inches per second. In addition, the PEX-1000 Series supports 203, 300, and 600 dpi resolutions for all your label formatting needs. Customers can easily change a printer’s resolution by simply swapping out the printhead. The firmware will recognize which printhead is installed and automatically switch to that resolution. Most competitors require you to purchase a whole new printer if you decide you need a different resolution.
To meet the demands of busy assembly lines, the rugged print engine incorporates a robust die-cast construction. It is built to be durable and will work while mounted on any axis at just about any angle. The print engine will continue operating without skipping a beat.

The PEX-1000 Series is innovative and easy to connect to your current network through multiple wireless options including 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless and Bluetooth® 4.0 module. In addition to being designed for ultimate compatibility with existing installations, the PEX-1000 features are powered by the innovative TSPL-EZD firmware. The firmware supports out-of-the-box compatibility with most major label languages used in many print and apply applications. TSPL programming can also fully control printing and print and apply machines from within the print engine. There is no longer an additional controller needed. This is a unique feature of TSC products. These powerful programming tools replace the need for additional computer hardware, saving the user thousands of dollars.
Extremely efficient, the TSC PEX-1000 print engine produces barcode labels at fast print speeds allowing for labeling in record time. The mechanism is designed to fit easily in any print and apply system, thanks to its fully compatible structure and GPIO interface.
